The Webster Groves City Council adopted a resolution that opposes any St. Louis County connector road that would take away residential property from Webster Groves.
The Webster Groves City Council has adopted a resolution that encourages St. Louis County to "explore alternative measures to improve traffic flow on existing roadways and not to take any residential property in Webster Groves." The resolution, passed unanimously at the council's Tuesday night meeting, urges residents to voice their opposition to any proposal for a South County connector road that would take away residential property in Webster Groves. The vote came after county officials presented the South County Connector Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to the public at Webster Groves City Hall on June 29. Read previous coverage. Several proposed routes would require cities, including Webster Groves, to lose commercial or …

Mayor says County has not justified need for road project.
The Webster Groves City Council will draft a resolution that expresses its concerns about proposed South County Connector routes as outlined in the project's environmental impact statement (EIS). The decision to draft the resolution follows a public presentation of the South County Connector EIS last week, which sparked an outcry from residents who fear homes in the northeast section of the city could be seized via eminent domain. The presentation was of such concern that Mayor Gerry Welch and councilors insisted on drafting a resolution to express their unhappiness with the plans to St. Louis County officials. "I have yet to see the one study or piece of information that expresses why we need this so bad," Welch said. The connecting road …

Connector could include Tuxedo, Key West and Kuhlman on city's northeast side.
Just the idea of homes being taken to allow a north-south connector for South County motorists to reach mid-county had scores of Webster Groves residents up in arms Wednesday. A public presentation of the South County Connector Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) drew residents to city hall Wednesday evening. The EIS was the subject of a similar presentation earlier this month at the Affton White-Rodgers Community Center in Affton. The EIS is being carried out among the St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The intent of the EIS is to find a way to alleviate traffic congestion in some mid-county areas and create a more direct …

Representatives from St. Louis County will discuss the South County Connector project at a neighborhood meeting tonight.
In an ongoing effort to educate the public and receive feedback on the South County Connector Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), representatives from St. Louis County will hold a neighborhood meeting Wednesday night at Webster Groves City Hall from 5-6 p.m. Although funding currently is not available for the project and the South County Connector study is not anticipated to be finished until 2013, open house presentations have sparked concerns from some Webster Groves residents. Some have labeled the effort a "make-work" project while others have expressed fears that proposed construction could jeopardize historic homes along Laclede Station Road. Detailed information on the project can be found here. Kirkwood-Webster Groves Patch will …

Residents questioned the necessity of the massive road project at a meeting Thursday night.
A quicker drive from South County to mid-St. Louis County may be a decade away, but many area residents aren't seeing the need to disrupt their community. A public presentation of the South County Connector Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) drew scores of residents to the Shrewsbury City Center Thursday. The EIS was the subject of a similar presentation Tuesday at the Affton White-Rodgers Community Center. St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic officials said the EIS, sponsored by the department in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration is intended to find a way to alleviate traffic congestion in some midcounty areas and create a more direct route from South County …

The South County Connector project will identify traffic alternatives within Webster Groves and neighboring municipalities.
The St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic asked residents for feedback about the South County Connector project, an environmental impact statement (EIS) and location study, which aims to improve connectivity within Webster Groves, Maplewood and Shrewsbury, at an open house Wednesday. The EIS must be completed and approved before a connector project would be eligible for federal funding. Completion of the EIS is expected by early 2013. Construction could begin within 5-to-10 years once funding is secured. The project is bounded by Manchester Road to the north; Hanley and Laclede Station roads to I-44 to the west; Murdoch Avenue and Watson Road to the south; and Big Bend Boulevard and River Des Peres to the east. The study is …
