Weird Crime: Grieving Widow's Family Accused of Theft

Family Fingered Following Funeral Almost $7,000 was reported stolen after a Barnhart woman invited family members over to her house after her husband's funeral on Nov. 10. The victim told officers with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department that she noticed several items missing after family members left her home. Among the items missing were $600 in cash and several pieces of jewelry, including a man's gold wedding band. Moving Violation A man who enlisted help in moving into a new residence Oct. 22 on River Road, Fenton, ended up as the victim of a theft as one of his helpers drove off in his car with numerous of his personal items. Computer Tablet Scam Ends With Man Grabbing $800 From Woman A woman withdrew $800 from an ATM machine after being approached by two men on a QuikTrip parking lot in Hazelwood and said they were selling iPads and other electronic equipment. She led the men to a nearby supermarket where she withdrew $800 from an ATM machine. She then walked back to their car where they told her to take a box from the back of the car that supposedly contained the iPads. Instead, the boxes contained two picture frames that were made to look like iPads and another box that contained a wooden cutting board. Yet another box was filled with bubble wrap and a USB cord. Man Helps Himself to Supermarket Chicken After Stuffing Vodka in his Pants

Chicken-Eating Vodka Thief The store security staff at Dierbergs Market, in Arnold, watched a man stuff four bottles of Absolut vodka down his pants Sept. 30 and then walk through the store eating chicken from the deli, according to police. When the man tried to leave the store, the security staff tried to stop him and the man kicked them. He was booked and held. A Man Walks Into a Bar A St. Peters man walked into a sports bar on Jungermann Road Oct. 15 and slugged a complete stranger who was watching television. The victim said he did not know his assailant, had never spoken to him and had never met him before. This crime roundup is collected from various incidents reported by police departments around the St. Louis area. Too Early for Yelling and Honking A woman who was in her front yard in the Riverside subdivision in Fenton at 3 a.m. Sept. 11, and was yelling and honking her vehicle horn, was issued a peace disturbance summons. Ultra Huffing in the Woods The first clue that a man had been inhaling Ultra Duster was when police found him passed out in the woods on Sept. 14 with three cans of the compressed air product lying nearby, according to Fenton police. The man ultimately was arrested for returning three times to the Fenton Walmart before he was finally able to steal two cans of Ultra Duster. For those familiar with huffing, Ultra Duster …

Weird Crime: Man Sells Fake Heroin to Real Cop

All in the Family An unidentified 15-year-old used a gun to hold up a gas station in Chesterfield Aug. 26. He was turned in to police by his father, police said. A son asked his mother for some money Aug. 23 in the parking lot of Neighbors Credit Union in Fenton after she had cashed her paycheck. He became upset when she refused to give him any money so he stole the money from her hand and ran off. A 34-year-old St. Peters man was charged with pushing, hitting and kicking his mother Aug. 24, sending her to the hospital for her injuries. His grandmother witnessed the attack. Don't Touch That Dial! Police received a call for a disturbance July 18 on Yale Avenue in Maplewood. A 53-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman had assaulted one another after arguing about changing a television show. Hot Items on the Thieves' Hit List Someone stole 18 packs of flea and tick repellent, valued at $822.77, July 18 from PetSmart in Arnold. Four Medela breast pumps were stolen July 15 from Buy Buy Baby in Ballwin. The pumps were valued at $1,599. Creve Coeur police were notified that sometime between July 14 and July 15, a metal heron, measuring 16 inches tall, was taken from a yard on Champeix Lane. It was valued at approximately $40. This accident took place on the southbound Shrewsbury Avenue overpass of Interstate 44. Police located the suspect vehicle in a driveway in Affton, and an Affton man was issued a citation for leaving the scene of an accident. 4 Drunks at a Furniture Store Police arrested four intoxicated suspects May 9 who tried to pry the lock off the loading dock door at Rothman Furniture, 7737 Watson Rd., Sappington. Fowl Play in Ballwin as Turkey Breaks and Enters When a Ballwin resident arrived home from work March 29 he noticed a broken window and heard commotion in the house, located on Wetherburn Drive. He left and reported a possible burglary to police. When police arrived, however, the officers found a wild, 20-pound, female turkey in the basement. After forcing itself through the home's kitchen window It was hiding in a workout area. "It seemed pretty uninjured," Ballwin Police Sgt. Jim Heldmann said. "It lost a bunch of feathers but it just took off. I don't know if it flew … but there was no blood, which was surprising with all the (broken) glass." Altoids Are Probably a Better Idea A woman was arrested Sept. 1 for stealing under $500 at the Shop N Save store in the first block of Gravois Bluffs Plaza, Fenton. Police said the suspect hid two bottles of vanilla extract in her purse and paid for the rest of her groceries, but failed to pay for the vanilla. Police said that when the woman was asked why she stole the vanilla she responded "I’m an alcoholic and drink the vanilla extract so my husband won’t find out I’m drinking again." Priorities A man was issued a summons Sept. 16 for urinating in the parking lot of the Steak 'n Shake in the 600 block of Gravois Bluffs Boulevard in Fenton. Grinchy Thief Cleans Out Shed A fully decorated Christmas tree was among a variety of items stolen from a storage shed Nov. 17 on Tesson Hills Drive in Fenton. Also missing were a pool table, a sectional sofa, three air purifiers, a green bicycle and a set of red pots-and-pans and a table and chairs set. Making It Easy A woman told police she parked her car in front of a Walgreens store Nov. 13 in University City and then entered the store. When she returned, the vehicle was missing.
