On the Blog Post Leaf Bags

ReplyThanks, Ron, for this question. Schnucks was only partly correct. The City of Kirkwood now charges $9.25 for a bundle of five yard waste bags and $1.50 per sticker - if you buy them at City Hall. This includes sales tax. Retailers may add a surcharge to the cost of the bags or stickers, which we have no control over, but they also offer the convenience of weekend and evening availability. This was our first price increase since 2005. The price went up because our fuel and labor costs have increased. You probably know this, but the price we charge for the bags covers the cost of collection and disposal as well as the cost of the bags. For more in-depth information, please visit the Yard Waste page on the City Website, at: http://www.kirkwoodmo.org/content/City-Departments/1925/yard-waste.aspx

ReplyKathleen: Our Public Works department is working with City Council to get curbside recycling set up for apartment and condominium complexes (and businesses). You probably already know this, but our sanitation service is not free (or supported by sales tax revenue). Residents pay a monthly fee for it. Thanks!

On the article Politicking at Greentree Parade Draws Concerns

ReplyWe appreciate the feedback from all the Patch.com readers. The City understands that some people do not like political speech in a community parade, which is why we place the political walkers and floats at the end of the parade. However, our political representatives and leaders are also a part of the community they serve and support, and we think their participation in the annual Greentree parade is appropriate. Thank you - Murray Pounds, Parks & Recreation Director

On the article City to Remove 150-Year-Old Tree From Kirkwood Park

ReplyThanks to those who have given ideas for preserving the memory of this tree. Some of the limb wood has already been given to a local wood worker and we will continue to examine ideas for the trunk as we move closer to the final removal. That final removal likely won't occur until late this fall so we can harvest seed from the remaining branches. - Kirkwood Parks and Recreation Department

On the article Food Fight: Who Has the Best Pizza in Mid-County?

ReplyThe best pizza in St. Louis will be found at Pizza-a-Go-Go. However, the Go-Go is in the City (south City, off Jamieson) so outside the requested parameters. I would therefore go with Racanelli's. I'm a sucker for New York style pizza, and this is the only real NY pizza to be found in St. Louis.
