Restaurant Week Aims to Showcase Kirkwood as Dining Destination
A host of Downtown Kirkwood business owners have banded together to celebrate the city's diverse mix of restaurants and shops through Dine Downtown Kirkwood 2011.
Downtown Kirkwood restaurants, specialty food stores and shops are hosting a first-ever Kirkwood restaurant week that runs through Saturday.
Executive Director of the Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District Donna Poe said the event, Dine Downtown Kirkwood 2011, was created in order to showcase Kirkwood as a dining destination.
"In the last 5-7 years, more and more restaurants have moved to Downtown Kirkwood," Poe said. "We have a diverse collection of locally owned restaurants. ... We want to raise awareness outside of Kirkwood about what we have here."

Poe noted that in addition to differing cuisines, Downtown Kirkwood restaurants also offer patrons a wide-range of food prices. "We have everything from pizza to fine dining," she said.
The event also was created for residents to celebrate the businesses they know and love. To this end, a host of Downtown Kirkwood eateries, are offering food specials until Saturday, either priced at $20.11 or $2.11 in honor of the innagural year of the restaurant week. Pumpkin Carving Contest, Friday, 5:30-8 p.m. in Kirkwood Farmers' Market Greenway
The event is open to all ages. Teams can include up to 8 participants. The Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District will provide a pumpkin and carving tools for each team. Pumpkins will be judged at the end of the evening with prizes awarded for a number of categories.
To register, contact the Kirkwood Parks Department at 314-822-5855. Guidelines and rules are available at registration. Time slots available at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.; Judging results at 8 p.m.
Cost: Residents: $10 per group of up to eight people; Non-Residents: $12 per group of up to eight people
