Smoothie King: So Much More Than Expected

Smoothie King, in the Woodbine Center, is now open and serving much more than just smoothies.

Kirkwood’s very own opened in late August in the Woodbine Center. Smoothie King, of course, offers a variety of smoothies made with fruit, protein and other ingredients, but they also sell vitamin supplements as well as a variety of healthy snacks.

Started in the 1970s in Louisiana, Smoothie King began as a health food store. The first one arrived in St. Louis about 12 years ago. The Kirkwood store not only serves walk-in customers, but also caters to the smoothie needs of our local school kids.

“We sell about 500-600 smoothies a week in schools. We send smoothies to once a week and the middle schools twice a week,” said Jeremy Stehlick, Owner and Operator of the Kirkwood Smoothie King. “We send three different flavors that stay frozen. We feel like it gives the kids a great tasting healthy alternative to some of the other cafeteria foods.”

The Kirkwood store gets plenty of foot traffic from the middle school too. “The middle school kids and the high school kids too, love us,” Stehlick said. Being a couple of blocks down the street from doesn’t hurt.

A typical Smoothie King customer is usually seeking one of three things: refreshment; meal replacement; or a pre- post- workout beverage.

“The Lean1 smoothie is a great meal replacement,” Stehlick said. “It has lots of protein, fiber and vitamins. Whereas the Power Punch Plus has complex carbs, protein and wheat germ; it’s great for a pre-workout drink.”

Plenty of customers also look to Smoothie King for other snacks too. They have a whole wall of healthy snacks.

“We’re far more than just smoothies," Stehlick said. "We have high protein cookies, beef and ostrich sticks, carrot and zucchini breads. We like to think of ourselves as a nutritional lifestyle center."

Another wall is filled with supplements. Vitamins, minerals, protein powders, cleanses and weight loss supplements.

“Our employees use our products because we feel there is nothing like personal experience to help the customers,” Stehlick said.

Catering is also available for birthdays, graduations, meetings and other special events.

“Usually we pre-make and deliver the smoothies to the event, but we do have the capability to also make the smoothies on site," Stehlick said. "It’s a fun, healthy alternative to some other catered foods available.”

Smoothie King is way more than smoothies. Stop in a enjoy the surprises.
